No time for a family trip? Planetarium too spendy?
Try this activity instead.
Reach for the Stars
You'll need:
Frozen juice can, tape or rubber band, flashlight & paper.
Fold the paper and cut small stars, diamonds and circles. Just like making
a paper snowflake, but leave more paper. Cut both ends from the juice can. Wrap the star paper around one end securing it with tape or rubber band.
Insert the flashlight into the open end of the can. Turn out the lights. Turn on the flashlight and shine it towards the ceiling or wall. Shine the flashlight at an angle against the can will decrease distortion.
Older children may want to research real constellations
and recreate them onto the paper.
Your local library will have plenty of books to help.
